Indian Style Chinese Hot Garlic

These wings are sweet and sticky like candy! The sauce can be reheated and poured over a side dish of rice. Make sure to bring the sauce to a boil, and simmer for several minutes to kill any bacteria that may be present. 1. Heat honey, soy sauce, and garlic in a saucepan until boiling.

2. Place the wings in the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch baking pan, and pour the honey mixture over the chicken. Cover with foil. Marinate in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight.

3. Bake, covered, at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 1 hour; turn the wings after 1/2 hour. Remove the foil cover, and bake for 15 minutes. Take the wings out of the sauce, and bake on a rack for 10 minutes. Turn the chicken wings, and cook for another 10 minutes.

Dosa is one of the most admired South Indian dish. Dosa is a kind of fried pancake made from split Urad Dal and rice batter. Rice and dal are soaked into water and blended into fine pastes. These pastes are mixed and salt is added into it before leaving it for fermentation. Ferment overnight or for a day. For making crispy dosas take a laddle of batter and spread it on hot greased skillet into a thin circle and fried with oil or ghee until golden brown. The dosa may then be folded in half and served. Dosa can be eaten plain or with some stuffing inside. For making stuffed dosa or masala dosa prepare the stuffing separately and fill in the centre and close the dosa.

Idli is another culinary delight from South India which is savored by all food lovers of the country. Idli, the steamed rice cake is more like steamed dumplings. It is made by steaming batter, traditionally made from pulses and rice. Rice and pulses are soaked into water and ground to a paste which is fermented overnight or until double in its volume. The fermented batter is put into greased idli mold and steamed until done. Idli molds are perforated that allow the idlis to be cooked evenly. Idlis can be steamed into cooker or idli maker. Vada is originally a dish from South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka but now it is popular all over the country. It is a kind of snacks which is cooked with many different recipes and ingredients. The regular vada is made from smooth urad dal batter. To add the flavor to batter ginger, chillies, curry leaves and spices are added. The batter is pressed to the shape of vada and deep fried in oil till golden brown. We also had scallion pancake which was perfectly crisp on the outside, chewy with generous scallions on the inside.

A restaurant has downplayed some flavors and omitted some dishes, all to suit Westerners’ tastes. But you will find that the rendering of everything, even the beloved spring rolls, is true to tradition.

Indian Chinese food: Is it really healthy?

Chai neez, Chineese, Chinice, Chinase- the commonly misspelt word is the favorite kind of cuisine for anyone of us. Hakka noodles, Schezwan rice, Manchurian balls or Chicken fried rice we love all of them. Given a chance to eat something else from the normal roti and sabji we would all choose Chinese food over other options.

Earlier available only in selected read expensive restaurants, you can now see Chinese food available in all restaurants or simply on road side Chinese stalls/ tehlaas.

But little did we know that the Chinese food what we get in India doesn’t even match half to the original Chinese food from China. The Chinese food we get in India is Indian Chinese and not the real Chinese. So, we answer the basic questions like – How is Indian Chinese different then real Chinese food?  Is Indian Chinese healthy?

Indian Chinese food is definitely different than Chinese food. The following factors make it different:

Maida: Maida or refined while flour is used widely in preparing Manchurian balls and wantons. The noodles which you eat in variety of Chinese dishes are made up of Maida. Maida is refined white flour, it has poor nutritional value as most of its nutrients are lost in refining process. Moreover, maida has high glycemic index, which results in increase in your blood sugar levels and triglycerides in the blood which can lead to various other health issues hampering your digestion process.

Sodium: Chinese food is high in sodium content. The amount of salt which is used in various dishes is high in proportion and can have ill effects on the body. Increased sodium levels in the body can lead to water retention, increases blood pressure that  increases the risk of cardiovascular and kidney diseases.

Artificial colors: Along with various kinds of sauces, there are food colors which are added to dishes to make it more attractive. But little do we know that intake of these chemicals in high proportion can have harmful side effects like gastrointestinal problems and can cause allergies.

Apart from the above things, the Chinese food is oily. The preparation that Indian Chinese requires contains excess of oil. This excess of oil makes Indian Chinese a bad choice for those with heart problem and who are losing weight, further the quality of oil used in the roadside stalls is also questionable.
