China vacations info – Beijing Lama Temple

This article is about the Beijing travel and Lama temple. You can find some useful information in it if you are planning your Beijing travel now.

Lama Temple (Yonghegong) :
This Lama Temple was built as a mansion for Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty when he was a prince. In 1744, the temple was converted into a lamasery and the home of larger numbers of monks from Mongolia and Tibet. The lamasery has five halls. The prayer halls contain many superb statues including the 23-meter-high Maitreya, caved from a white sandalwood tree brought from Tibet, as well as Tibetan sculptures and a great copper cauldron.

The Yonghe Temple, also known as the “Palace of Peace and Harmony Lama Temple”, the “Yonghe Lamasery”, or – popularly – the “Lama Temple” is a temple and monastery of the Geluk School of Tibetan Buddhism located in the northeastern part of Beijing, China. It is one of the largest and most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the world. The building and the artworks of the temple combine Han Chinese and Tibetan styles. The Lama temple is a famous lamasery located in the northeastern part of the old city of beijing. it was a palatial residence built in 1694 by qing emperor kangxi for his fourth son, prince yongzheng who later succeeded to the throne. this magnificent temple consists of five main buildings lying on the?north-south axis, with annex halls standing on both sides. the temple is listed by the chinese government as one of the important historical monuments under special preservation. after the death of his father, emperor yongzheng moved to the forbidden city. the compound was closed to ordinary people and was renamed yonghegong (the palace of harmony). green roof tiles were replaced by yellow ones to suit a monarch’s home. in 1744 his successor emperor qianlong converted the palace into a lamasery.( info for your China vacations and tours)

The Lama Temple includes five buildings and three courtyards. The buildings here imitated the style of Han, Manchu, Inner Mongolia, and Tibet. The whole building complex can be divided into three parts- east part, middle part and west part. The middle part is on the axle line. From south to north lie the Arch Courtyard (Pailou Yuan), the Gate of Zhaotai (Zhaotai Men), the Hall of Heavenly Kings (Tianwang Dian), the Hall of Harmony and Peace (Yonghegong Dian), the Hall of Blessing (Yongyou Dian) , the Hall of Dharma Wheel (Falun Dian), the Ten-Thousand-Happiness Pavilion (Wanfu Ge), and so on.There are “three bests” in Lama Temple. The first to be mentioned is the statue of Maitreya in the Ten- Thousand-Happiness Pavilion (Wanfu Ge). The statue of Maitreya was carved out of a single trunk of white sandalwood. It is 26m high, 8m in diameter, 18m above the ground and 8m underground. According to historical record, it was a gift for Emperor Qianlong from the 17th Dalai Lama. The second “best” is the big sculpture of “Five Hundred Arhats Mountain” in the Hall of Dharma Wheel (Falun Dian). The sculptured mountain is carved out of black sandalwood with 500 arhats, and cast in gold, silver, copper, iron and tin. All 500 uniquely styled arhats are vividly carved and exquisitely engraved. The sculpture is of very high value due to the excellent craftsmanship. The last one is the Golden Niche which was made of nanmu. All of those make the Lama Temple mystical and attract more people. ( info for your China vacations and trips)

To get here, you can take the Line 13, 62, 116 or 807 city buses. The subway is also a good option. It can take you to the station named “Lama Temple Station” and this station is very close to the Lama Temple. The price for the entrance ticket is 25 rmb for one person and you can get a 50% off if you can show them your student ID. Office hours: 9:00 – 17:00. Some tips here: You can bargain when shopping in the Lama Temple. The incense here is very good and you can buy some if you want.

The real Airport Express and subway system in Beijing – Info for China vacations

This article is about the Airport Express and subway system in Beijing. You can find some useful information in it if you are planning your China vacations now.

The speed of the Beijing subway train is about 73.3 km / hour. Because the subway system of Beijing is very new and lots of new technologies are used to build it, most people believe that the Beiijing subway system should be advanced and convinient. But I find that this subway system is not convinient for the passengers and lots of time is wasted in the transfer stations, especially for the Line 13. I live in Beijing for almost 10 years and I think I can get a good understanding of the subway system of Beijing. (more info about the Beijing airfare, China vacations and Shanghai airfare at Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM)

I will give an example here. It’s only 3 minutes’ ride from Jishuitan to Beijing north railway station. From the digital map, I got this info: (1). Take the Line 2 subway in Jishuitan and get off on Xizhimen. (2). Walk 150 meters and you will get to the Beijing north railway station. I decided to take the subway for this trip. At first, I thought that it will only cost me 10 minutes to get to my destination by subway. I entered the Entrance C of the Jishuitan station. There is no down escalator here and I have to walk down by myself. I am ok with this. But it will be a horrible experience for those passengers with big luggages. I took a train to Xizhimen. When I arrived at Xizhimen, I saw a direction board telling me to go to Exit A (for the Beijing north railway station). There are a lot of passengers in this subway station and you will see many people carrying big luggages here. But they have to walk up and down too in this subway station. (no escalator for the passengers who transfer to the Line 13 subway) You can imagine how hard this subway transfer could be for these people. This railway station is not just inconvenient for the passengers, it is very time consuming too. I entered the Jishuitan station on 14:02 and get to my destination – Beijing north railway station – on 14:40. Wow! 38 minutes! I spent only 5 minutes taking the subway train and the other 33 minutes was all used in the subway transfer. (many up and down stairs in the Xizhimen station)

The Xizhimen transfer station is a nightmare for most passengers but it will be nothing comparing with the Military Museum Station. You will have to get off in this station if you wanna go to the Beijing west railway station by subway. There is a subway station named “Beijing west railway station” in the blueprint of the Beijing subway system. But this station is not ready till today and all the passengers have to walk to the Beijing west railway station with their big luggages. To be honest, this is not a good choice. It is too far away from the Military Museum subway station to the Beijing West Railway Station and you will be exhausted if you choose to go there on foot. You’d better take a taxi or bus instead.(more info about the Shanghai airfare, China vacations and Beijing airfare at Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM)

As I know, the Fuxinmen transfer station and Guomao transfer station are very time consuming too. In my point of view, the Beijing subway system is not very convinient if you have to do some transfers to get to your destination. These transfers will cost you too much time and energy. In this case, the taxi or bus will be better for you.

The Airport Express is designed for the passengers to the Beijing Capital Airport. But most people choose to take the airport bus now instead of this Airport Express subway line. I took this Airport Express once. It is not comparable with the Airport Express in Hongkong or Paris, although these two were built earlier. There is no place for big luggages in the train and you have to put your luggages in the aisle. When I get off at the Dongzhimen station, I was disappointed again. You will have to carry your big luggages by hand because there is no escalator here too just like the Xizhimen transfer station. I talked to the security guy and he told me that all the passengers from the airport have to use the stairs and he heard lots of complains about this issue. The transfer in the Dongzhimen station is very time consuming too. Because of this, you will spend more time to get to the Beijing Capital Airport if you choose to take this Airport Express subway, comparing with the airport bus. This Airport Express is more expensive too. It costs 25 rmb. But you will only need to pay 16 rmb for the airport bus. No wonder most people choose the airport bus now. (You can get more info about the Beijing airfare, China vacations and Shanghai airfare at Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM) I heard that some people missed the plane because the delay of the Airport Express train. This “Express” subway line is not that fast in my point of view. Another disadvantage of this Airport Express is that the train will always get to the T3 terminal first, then go to the T2 terminal. If you are going to the T1 terminal, you will need to go to your destination on foot again !

China vacations info – Influence of the A(H1N1) to the Beijing airfare and Shanghai airfare

This article is about the Influence of the A(H1N1) to the Beijing airfare and Shanghai airfare. You can find some useful information in it if you are planning your China vacations now.

Now the Beijing airfare and Shanghai airfare have been greatly affected by the A(H1N1) flu. You can get the air tickets at very good deals. On 05/12/2009, the airfare from Hangzhou to Beijing is only 350 rmb. This is the same as the cost of the train from Hangzhou to Beijing. Some Chinese airlines companies said that most China airfare is now pretty low, some airlines are selling their air tickets at 70% – 80% off. Comparing with the airfare of the domestic flights, the influence of the A(H1N1) flu to the international flights are even bigger.

From May,2009, many international airline companies began their big promotions on the tickets of the international airlines. The airfare is now at the lowest level in the recent 3 years. The Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. is now offering the round trip tickets ( from Shanghai to London and from Shanghai to Manchester ) at only 5900 rmb. Before the A(H1N1) event, the lowest airfare you can get for this airline is 6500 rmb. The China Southern Airlines Comapny Limited is also selling the air tickets at a incredible low airfare. You only need to pay 3800 rmb for the flight from Shanghai to Amsterdam (the capital of Netherlands). It was 4500 rmb before the A(H1N1) event.

The Emirates Airlines is now offering 2 free nights at the Dubai’s five stars hotels, 1 free ticket to the aquarium, underwater zoo and skating rink, 1 free 96 hours’ United Arab Emirates visa if you buy a first class or business class ticket from them. This promotion is available from 05/15/2009 to 09/15/2009. (more info about the Beijing airfare at Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM)

The China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited is now selling the round trip tickets from Shanghai to Seoul at the low airfare of only 1040 rmb, and only 3060 rmb for the round trip tickets from Hong Kong to Sydney. If you are planning your trip from Shanghai to Chicago, you can choose the American Airlines. They are selling the round trip tickets from Shanghai to Chicago at the low airfare of only 4500 rmb.

Another good news for the international travellers is that the Bunker Adjustment Factor fee is lower than it used to be now. You can save some money from this price change too.

“There are only 3 A(H1N1) cases in China now. But we are still worrying about its influence on the China airfare. Currently, the A(H1N1) is only affecting the international flights and airfare. It did not affect our domestic airfare yet. But if the A(H1N1) event get worse in China, the domestic airfare will be greatly affected for sure. This will be a disaster for the Chinese airlines companies already running in the red before the A(H1N1) event.” Guihong Zhao (professor from the Civil Aviation University of China) said.

Now China has 3 A(H1N1) cases:

(1). Mr Bao is a student of an American university. He is 30 years old. He flew from Saint Louis to Tokyo on 05/07/2009. On 05/08/2009, he caught the flight NW 029 from Tokyo to Beijing. On 05/09/2009, he flew from Beijing to Chengdu (by the flight 3U8882). This is the first A(H1N1) case in China. Now Mr Bao was recovered and discharged from hospital (on 05/17/2009).

(2). Haitao Lv is a 19 years old student in Canada. He flew to Beijing on 05/07/2009 (Canadian time) by the flight AC029. He stayed in Beijing for 3 days and visited some famous tourism attractions in Beijing, like Wangfujing, Huanleigu, Houhai bar street, Dongdan. (more info about the China vacations and Beijing airfare at Travel2ChinaInfo Dot COM)

(3). Miss Liu is a 18 years old student in an American university. She flew to Beijing on 05/11/2009. Her disease was identified as the A(H1N1) flu on 05/16/2009. This is the first A(H1N1) case of Beijing.

This article is about the China vacations and you can find some useful information in it if you are planning your China vacations now.

A lot of Chinese people like to hang out with friends in the KTVs. The Karaoke is most Chinese young people’s favourite recreational activities. I will talk about the most notable KTVs of Beijing in this article.

1. Melody KTV ( 4 stars in sound system, 3 stars in food ):

This is one of the oldest KTVs in Beijing and lots of people are very familar with this place. It has 4 branches in Beijing. One thing I find interesting about Melody KTV is that different Melody branches has different decoration styles. I like Melody KTV’s environment, very quiet and comfortable. The sound systems here are perfect. This is good for the Karaoke fans because their voices will sound better with the good sound systems. :-)   There is a small supermarket in it and you can get drinks, wines and snacks at a reasonable price here. (info for your China vacations and travel)

Text comments: The sound systems of Melody KTV are professional but the only weakness of this place is that there is no free lunches or dinneres here. As a very famous KTV in Beijing, you can find the latest pop songs in Melody KTV. Now it is offering many coupons to the customers: like buy 2 hours and get 2 hours for free, etc.

The average cost for one person in Melody KTV is about 70 rmb.

2. Tango KTV (3 stars in sound systems, 4 stars in food):

This is a 24 hours’ KTV in Beijing. There are different types of rooms here and the free Internet is available in every room. This is good for the people waiting to sing their songs in the KTV rooms. The environment of Tango is pretty good and the decoration style here is very modern. There are 3 VIP rooms which is very different in the decoration style with other rooms. You can choose them if you wanna try something different here. :-)   In the dinner time, Tango KTV offers free food and drinks for all the costomers here. The quality of these food and drinks are not bad.

Text comments: The sound systems here are good and you can find all kinds of songs here. I once found Karen Mok’s “Don’t love me” here. You will not be able to find this song in any place else in Beijing. There is a recording studio in Tango KTV. You can get your own music demo if you want. Very interesting.

3. Party World (4 stars in sound system, 4 stars in food):

Party World’s sound systems are very good. You will never find the sound interference here. Many pop music fans like a function called “Magic voice” here. You can greatly improve your voice by using this “magic” Karaoke function. Because of this, more and more young people have become the fans of the Party World. There are free food and drinks here all the time. Some customers are just here for the food. For them, this KTV is more like a restaurant. :-)
